Preparing your Home for a Long Vacation
Planning for a long vacation does not just involve making reservations for a hotel room and detailing your travel itinerary. It is also vital to prepare your home for the long duration that you will not be living in it. One important thing to consider is to plan for the security of your house. So when you want to make sure that your residence is still in order when you get home, put the necessary security measures outlined below into place.
For one, never make your home look like it is empty. Ask a friend to visit the house from time to time to check everything and to take in the newspapers and mail. You can also leave a few lights on to discourage would-be thieves from breaking into your home or, better yet, you can use timers or sensors that automatically turn the lights on and off at certain times.
Take note, however, that even with all your security measures, your home could still be robbed. Thus, before leaving for vacation, make sure to take note of all your valuables. Such a task may prove to be helpful when having to settle things especially with your insurance provider. Additionally, using a video recorder can prove helpful since you would not necessarily need to document everything in print.
Aside from the security, you also need to ensure that your plumbing network is in good condition. Make sure to have any leaking pipes and dripping taps fixed so that you avoid having increased water bills and prevent the growth of mould while you are on your holiday.
These are just a few tips to ensure that your home is safe even when you have to go on a long vacation.
