Knowing How a Plumbing Snake Works
A plumber's snake, otherwise known as a toilet jack, is a flexible device used to remove clogs in plumbing that cannot be loosened up with a plunger. It consists of a coiled metal wire with space between the coils at the end. The opposite tip is connected to a device with a crank that rotates the wire as it moves down the pipe. This tool is typically adjustable and can reach anywhere from a few feet to about 50 feet in length.
The plumber's helper has different types. The standard hand-held ones are operated manually. The drum-loaded variety uses a motor and works by gyrating to crumble and eventually remove debris. Lastly, there are some sophisticated units that have built-in cameras. This enables the operator to see where and what obstruction is causing the problem.
When the drain on the kitchen sink or bathroom is filled with waste such as hair, foreign objects, and food pieces, water is unable to pass through swiftly. An accumulation of foreign matter then forms as a result of the blockage. In most cases, you are not immediately aware that the latter has occurred until several uses later. When this happens, a plumbing snake and a drain cleaner need to be used to clear the passageway and permit the free flow of liquids once again.
To unclog the drain, the toilet jack is inserted into the hole. It has to either be manually guided or pushed through until the blockage is cleared. The said tool needs to be manoeuvred until it reaches the obstruction before being turned so it can force the item through.
