Car Heating System Maintenance
The car's heating system relies on its ducts to send air into the vehicle. The heat comes from a small radiator, while the fan blows the heat from hot water into your auto's vents.
The heater core or radiator cannot be cleaned because it is bolted up underneath the dashboard. It is a job reserved for certified mechanics. However, the duct work can be tidied up to improve the efficiency of your car's heating mechanism.
Start by mixing an enzyme cleaning solution in your spray bottle. The said mixture is usually composed of a concentrate diluted with water. An activator is then added to the concoction. Still, each brand is different so you must follow specific directions. This cleaning tool will literally eat the dirt, grease, and grime that have accumulated inside your vents.
Proceed by spraying a dozen squirts through each duct in the vehicle so that the liquid actually flows into the system itself. Use a damp rag to wipe off the excess solution. Allow the car to sit overnight without starting the engine before morning. That way, the enzymes will be given time to work.
Put your car fan on high power so it blows air from the outside into the ducts. This process will dry up the enzyme liquid and, with it, all the dirt and grime that have stuck to the vents. Note that large particles will have been broken up by the mixture you applied. Thus, you need to exercise extra caution at this point. Finally do some vacuuming on your automobile to ensure that the heating system will work like new.
