All Sorts of Kitchen Stove Hoods

A range hood or kitchen stove hood is placed on top of stoves. It is primarily used to draw cooking vapours out of the house, preventing the latter from ruining the wall or cabinets above the range. It also helps keep your food preparation area cool and odour free. This type of equipment comes in several varieties, some of which will be discussed in the succeeding paragraphs.

Venting kitchen stove hoods typically contain a fan that pulls the heat and cooking fumes up and out of the kitchen through an exhaust duct. They can be connected to two kinds of vents - long, flue-like structures that extend towards the roof or a mechanism that leaks out at the back of the hood to the outside of the abode.

Re-circulating range hoods filter out odours and re-circulate air back into a space, thus, eliminating the need for vents or ducts. The under cabinet variety is named more for its placement rather than its function. They can either be venting or re-circulating. Wall mounted models, meanwhile, can be characterised by the unique feature of extending to the ceiling and venting out in a similar manner to a smokestack.

Finally, cookers in a kitchen island use a chimney type of stove hood. It is built on top of a range and is connected to the ceiling. It draws the smoke out of the room to a pipe that empties outside of the residence.
